Close your eyes. A warm sandy beach. Palm shade. And in your hand, that creamy, cold, pineapple-and-coconut scented drink. The Piña Colada exists for precisely this feeling — and drinking one on Long Beach doubles the effect.
At Locale Sports Bar the Piña Colada is made with Coco López coconut cream and fresh pineapple juice. In the blended version the ice is incorporated to produce a creamy texture. The classic version is served on the rocks.
Puerto Rico's Gift to the World
The Piña Colada is generally credited to San Juan in 1954, where it was created and is now celebrated as Puerto Rico's national cocktail. Its name means "strained pineapple" in Spanish. Over decades it became the defining drink of beach bars across the world.
On Long Beach, at Locale Sports Bar İskele's sun-warmed terrace, a Piña Colada in hand means bringing a little Caribbean tradition to the Eastern Mediterranean.
Frozen or Classic?
On hot summer days the frozen Piña Colada is the clear winner — cooler, creamier and ice-cream-like in texture, best sipped slowly. The classic version lets the flavours come through more distinctly, with the rum character more prominent.
